Why Do Clients Leave Marketing Agencies?

May 17, 2024

Why clients and agency relationships

I was browsing through a PPC report for the year 2004 and found an interesting link I hadn’t seen before, so I’m sharing it with you. An American agency (they call themself “marketing matmatchmakers” whatever it means) surveyed brands and agencies. And one of the questions was “Why clients end relationships with agencies?”

There’s such an interesting dissonance, absolutely, in what’s actually happening in the clients’ minds and what agencies think about it. What surprised me the most is that the top reason for clients was dissatisfaction with value, whereas agencies are convinced everything is okay and placed this reason next to last. In second place was dissatisfaction with delivery, and again, agencies put this in the last place. A complete mismatch and absolute confidence from agencies that they’re doing everything right, although clients are absolutely dissatisfied with what the agency does.

Additionally, it’s interesting to note that agencies think clients leave them because of personnel changes or another reason – they’re dissatisfied with the relationship, perhaps someone said something wrong, and the client was offended. Very curious, what do you think about this? Is it related to Australia’s marketing agencies clients relationship? Check out the comments, or write to me directly on Instagram.

Sincerely yours, TD
